Why Bamboo?

Why Bamboo?

Why Bamboo?

When we first started Solution Bamboo, people were asking us a bunch of questions. Most of them were related to bamboo: Why use bamboo from another country instead of using pine, maple or other types of local trees to make your products?

Well, to them we answered one simple sentence: Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants on the planet (yes, it's a plant, a grass actually) and has many other great unique/eco-friendly characteristics about it!

With a surprised look in their eyes, they said: Really? What are they?

Immediately after telling them about bamboo's unique characteristics, their opinion about bamboo was changed, forever.

You're now asking yourself, ''Well, what are these unique attributes?''. Read below to find out!

Bamboo ...

  • Is one of the fastest growing plants in the world. In fact, it can reach its mature height of 40 feet in less than 2 years;

  • Is used for soil regeneration. It feeds of toxins and doesn't need much to grow;

  • Produces 35% more oxygen than its rival plants;

  • Absorbs 5 times more CO2 than its equivalent mass in other types of trees;

  • Is a plant that needs no fertilizer and/or pesticide to grow, since, as mentioned before, it feeds on the toxins in the ground;

  • Is as resilient as steel;

  • Has natural antibacterial properties that kill bacteria and fungi that might attack it;

  • Is much more than a simple plant!

And if you didn't know, now you know!

Crazy isn't it???

This is why we chose bamboo over other types of material for our products. It's a renewable source that creates no deforestation and most importantly, no waste!

Bamboo takes between 1 to 10 years to fully decompose in the ground, compared to plastic which takes about 400 years and leaves microfibers and petroleum traces in the earth.

Of course, this material has its disadvantages. Nothing is perfect! But we greatly appreciate nature, giving us the opportunity to use such a wonderful material to create everyday usable products.

A little more about bamboo

A couple of years ago, I went to Thailand, Laos and other countries in Asia to explore a different part of the world. This trip was a total eye opener and I saw things I would never of imagined. The most impressive thing I remember was the use of bamboo.

Did you know that in Asia, bamboo is used to make beds, scaffolds for construction, desks, boats, houses, tools and more! They basically use it for everything since it is abundant, renewable and easy to manipulate. Don't believe me? Google it! You'll be surprised!
